Michael Atkins, president of Laurentian Publishing Group, is a founding member of the Northern Ontario Business Awards program. Laurentian Publishing, which has expanded into a variety of publishing interests in central Ontario and New England, launched Northern Ontario Business newspaper in March of 1982. Atkins is past chairman of the Canadian Business Press and the Area Association of Business Publications, and a former director of the Sudbury YMCA, Sudbury Theatre Centre and the Ontario Community Newspapers Association. He was also founding co-chair of Sudbury 2001, an economic diversification group.
Dr. David Robinson, Ph.D. teaches Economics at Laurentian University. He has been researching and writing about the resource-based economy of Northern Ontario since 1990 and is widely recognized as an expert on the Northern economy. He initiated the Elliot Lake Tracking Study, an eight-year study of what happened to workers laid off when the uranium mines in Elliot Lake closed. The study was the largest survey-based study of its kind ever conducted.
He began calling attention to the growing Sudbury mining cluster in 2000 and conducted an influential study of the Mining Supply and Services Cluster in the Sudbury Region for the federal government development agency for Northern Ontario.
In 2005 he published a book on The Topology of the 2x2 Games and is currently working on a book on economic development for Northern Ontario.
Dr. Livio Di Matteo is a professor and chair of the economics department of Lakehead University.
